Topic: various and sundry
Hola, mis lectores. Como estan? Please forgive the lack of diacrictics.
Spanish class is going well, very enjoyable, muy divertida. Of course, my approach and attitudes are quite different from most of my classmates. I do not have to take the class. I take it for the joy of learning, the love of languages, and yes, the utility. I was able this very day to say a couple of things in Spanish to a prospective student and understand what she said to me. The preterito and imperfecto are a bit overwhelming at the moment, but it's just a matter of time and usage. We have the same uses in English; we just don't just the same forms to get the job done.
Note the "Powered by Qumana" at the bottom right. Pretty cool tool. I can post to my blogs (at least my Tripod blogs) without logging in. It may seem a small thing, but it saves steps.
Va a hablar sobre el Tour? Is he going to talk cycling? Well, duh! I got to see the end of today's stage on OLN. First day in the Pyrenees, and we see some fireworks, though not from the teams with contenders. The French took the day, sharing the glory with the Spanish. An uneasy cooperation at the end; is that indicative of the EU? Not being snotty, just talking. I actually felt a welling up of emotion in my chest as I watched them climb. If you've been reading of my adventures, you'll understand where I'm coming from. I've got some inkling of how hard it is to go that far, that fast. Where they were going 8mph, I would have been going maybe 5mph. When someone is going even a half mile per hour faster, you think you are going at the same pace, but really you are slipping, slipping, slipping.
And of course, the daily compliment to Robbie Mac. When he pulls the trigger, he flies like a bullet. I'd like to see Boonen get a win, but you cannot fault McEwen or Oscarito. Them boys are good!
Here's my opinion on OLN's name change to "Versus". I understand the concept, which I take to be a desire to encompass any kind of competitive activity. However, the name just falls flat. What I hear is "versez", and by itself, that comes out as "verses" as in the parts of a poem or song. I have to applaud OLN for the coverage they give to cycling. I acknowledge that OLN is not the bass fishing network anymore. But a little more thought should have gone into the name change. But as long as I get to watch men on two wheels, they can call the network what they like.
Enough said.
