mid-paced ride, saturday, sept. 16
Topic: cycling

Good ride today. 40 miles in about 2.5 hours. Not fast, not at all, just a comfortable spin, probably could have done the whole ride in the small ring. I'm finding that the 34 spins out just a bit, but I hesitate to give it up on the big hills. A 36 might not be bad, now that I've got a 27 to play with. Might have to consider that.

When I got to the start of the ride, nobody was there. A few minutes later, another guy showed up. He said the ride leader for the day lived just up the hill; however, she was a no-show. A few other people did show up, including a couple of guys I'd never ridden with. After a couple of miles up the bike trail, there was a definite split, and the three of us up front never saw the rest again.

These two guys were more my speed, at least for the day. We cruised together when the wind was calm, maybe 17-18mph, but when we turned into the wind, I motored out front and led for the following six miles. A couple of times I looked down at my hrm at found I was runninng 133. That's race pace for me, but I was feeling. Earlier, I had only been running 108. There was a crosswind or a headwind most of the way back in. We stopped for a minute at an intersection and then for maybe five minutes at a quick shop.

Just the ride I needed. Now I need some cross bike time.
